Characteristics
Soils are made of chalk and clay. Vineyards are oriented South/ South-West on nice slopes, well drained, easy to warm up.
Wine making
The red wine of Maranges is fermented 3 to 4 weeks and then aged in oak barrels during 15 months before bottling.
Winemaker's comments / Gastronomy
This wine has a lot of character. It is full, always with a rather deep colour. Its shows aromas of little red berries, sometimes flowery (violet) it may smell of fig .
The red Maranges matches beautifully red meat, lamb but also cheese when they are not too mature.
Preservation
Maranges wines are structured to mature slowly. A classic year will harmoniously develop during 5-8 years in good conditions of temperature and humidity.
